PHRX AND AAP GEAR UP FOR KAGITINGAN RALLY OF CAPAS

THE Philippine Rallycross Series (PHRX) and the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) are poised to ignite the rally racing scene in the Philippines with the highly anticipated Kagitingan Rally of Capas.

In partnership with the local government of Capas, Tarlac, the Kagitingan Rally of Capas promises an adrenaline-pumping dirt rally experience, with specially curated stages tracing the inner dirt roads of the municipality.

Spanning 11 special stages and covering a total distance of 50 kilometers, with transport stages included, the rally will offer a total thrill ride spanning 130 kilometers. The action is set to kick off at the iconic Capas Municipal Hall.

Setting the stage for the Kagitingan Rally of Capas, a ceremonial flag-off event was held at Estancia Mall in Capitol Commons, Pasig City.

Leading the ceremonial flag-off were AAP President Augustus Ferreria, AAP Motorsport Committee Chairman Mandy Eduque, and PHRX Directors Olson Camacho and Ronnie Trinidad.

Beyond merely promoting rally motorsport, the event provided mallgoers with an up-close encounter with rally cars while serving as the scrutineering process to ensure all competing rally cars met stringent safety requirements, including the presence of safety roll cages.

Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross

Previously, in a collaboration between PHRX and AAP, the Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross was staged as a highlight event at the CCP Open Grounds, coinciding with the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

Reflecting on the event, AAP Motorsport Manager Rikki Dy-Liacco expressed enthusiasm for the rallycross revival at the iconic CCP Open Grounds, recalling the sport's illustrious past.

The CCP Open Grounds, steeped in rallycross history, served as a fitting backdrop for the event, coinciding with MIAS and offering a prime platform to demonstrate the resurgence of rally racing to a diverse audience.

Camacho paid homage to the late Jun Espino, recognizing his instrumental role in revitalizing rally racing in the Philippines. A legendary rally navigator of the 1970s and 1980s, Espino not only excelled in local rallies but also represented the nation internationally, leaving an indelible mark as a mentor to many Filipino champion drivers.

The Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross, doubling as the fourth round of the PHRX 2024 season, drew a staggering 65 entries across various race classes, attracting a substantial turnout of race enthusiasts, many of whom attended MIAS. Notable figures from the local automotive industry, including Ferreria, Eduque, and Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) Assistant Division Head Marketing Robert Carlos, graced the event to ceremonially flag off the special round.
