DOTR INK PACT WITH DILG, MMDA TO CRACK DOWN ON COLORUM VEHICLES

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to intensify the crackdown on colorum vehicles as part of efforts to ease traffic in Metro Manila.

In a news release on Thursday, the DOTr  said the tripartite agreement was signed by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, and MMDA Chairman Romando Artes.

Under the agreement, the Joint Task Force of DOTr, DILG, and MMDA will conduct traffic, clearing, and anti-colorum operations in Metro Manila.

Clearing operations will also cover maritime, railway, and aviation sectors, according to the DOTr.

Bautista said eliminating colorum vehicles on the road, while supporting legitimate public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators as well as commuters, will ease road congestion in the metropolis.

“Kapag naalis po natin ang mga colorun vehicles, matutulungan pa natin na mabawasan ang trapiko rito sa Metro Manila (If we remove colorum vehicles, we can help reduce traffic congestion in Metro Manila),” the Transportation chief said.—Ted Cordero/AOL, GMA Integrated News
