MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM)’s “add to cart” initiative has generated P380 million in sales as of July, exceeding its full year goal, as government agencies move for a more efficient procurement process.
Data obtained by The STAR showed that 194 units of motor vehicles amounting to P378.61 million has been ordered and paid through the eMarketplace, the government’s official e-commerce platform for the procurement of common-use supplies and equipment (CSE) including motor vehicles.
This is already above the P320 million target sales to be generated for the whole year.
Of the 194 units ordered and paid, 116 units worth P217.3 million have been delivered while 62 units amounting to P129.8 million are scheduled for delivery.
The remaining 16 units equivalent to P31.51 million are lined-up for stocking by partner merchants on the platform.
Data showed that the orders resulted in P33.69 million in savings compared to market price.
About half of the purchased units are multipurpose vehicles. Others include passenger and utility vans, sports utility vehicles, sedans, buses and mini buses and pickup trucks.
Among the government agencies, the biggest buyers are the Land Transportation Office, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The eMarketplace is designed to modernize the procurement process, allowing agencies to conveniently “add to cart” essential goods and services, ensuring timely and cost-effective transactions.
The DBM maintained that early and efficient procurement of goods and services would further boost the economy as public spending accounts for 20 percent of gross domestic product.
The eMarketplace is one of the many components of the New Government Procurement Act that aims to modernize and augment public procurement processes in the country by addressing existing loopholes and inefficiencies.
